Edward Garth Kok of Lynden, WA went home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2012, from complications that resulted from decades of battling Parkinson's. Ed is a strong fighter and was determined to live well and long, which the Lord graciously allowed to him and his family.
Ed was born October 5, 1933 to Edward and Grace Van Dalfsen Kok in Lynden, WA. He attended Ebenezer Christian School and Lynden Christian High School. He went on to Bellingham Business College after 2 years in the US Army, and then began his career as an accountant, working for 20 years as a Controller at the Bellingham Herald.
While Ed was in the Army, he married the love of his life, Shirley Roosma, on September 23, 1955. Four sons followed to complete his heart's desire to have a household of laughter and love.
Ed also enjoyed every sport. If you could bounce it, hit it, or throw it, he was there with a huge smile on his face, encouraging and inspiring his sons and friends to play. He had a passion for tennis and golf. His heart's desire was always to be surrounded by those he loved and sports was a great way for everyone to get together.
Ed always sought to do good wherever he went. He was instrumental in starting Project Hope in the 1960s, which exists to this day to meet the needs of those less fortunate in our community to give them a hope and a future.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, his oldest brother Hip, and infant daughter Leesha.
Ed's devoted wife, Shirley, and his four sons and their wives, Ed and Kevin of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Bruce and Dana of Phoenix, Arizona, Jeff and Tami of El Dorado Hills, California, and Kent and Autumn of Bellingham, Washington survive him, along with their continually growing families.
Ed is also survived by brothers, Lou, Marv, John and Matt and sisters, Betty Kaemingk and Marsh DeBoer, who have been at his side throughout his life and this final journey home.
Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to CHCC and Hospice House.
