Fred Bengen Obituary

Fred L. Bengen, of Ferndale, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011, after a brief illness. Many people remember him through his long career at the former Western Farmers Association (Co-op). After retiring from WFA, he went on to another successful career selling real estate. He made many friends in that industry as well. After retiring from real estate, Fred and Joan continued to enjoy boating and camping with their RV group. They were also very active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Fred also enjoyed many hours of golf and watching sports, especially the Mariners. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Joan on February 27, 2004. He had met Marilyn Rockwell during his real estate career. They renewed their acquaintance and on April 5, 2008 they were married. They enjoyed many happy times together. Fred is survived by his wife, Marilyn; four children, Joan (Ron) Moline, Fred (Debbie) Bengen, Janell (Leo) Wilson, and Tom (fiancé Melody Grondahl) Bengen. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; step-children, Chad (Ramah) Rockwell, Aaron (Hillary) Rockwell, Kristen (Travis) Lipton; and 5 step-grandchildren; brother, Bob Bengen; sister, Joy Hughes; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, February 13, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Moles- Greenacres Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 15, at 10:00 AM at Moles-Greenacres Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Support Officer Community Care, P.O. We don't keep up with news very well so it was with great sadness to finally read the Sandy Point Sounder and learn of Fred's passing. He was always willing to help a friend, and he was a great help to Lloyd in purchasing his home at the Heights so many years ago. We are just so sorry he is gone, and we will miss him as everyone else who knew him will. Our thoughts are with the entire family.

Fred was a one of a kind guy. As a friend he never failed to be there when I needed him. He helped me countless times in my hour of need. Fred may have been old enough to be my father but, he was more like a brother. In recent years we both started a new chapter in ours lives and didn't get to see each other much. But I will never forget the lessons Fred taught me, crabbing, clamming, fishing and most of all; how to live life to it's fullest!!! We have lost one of the best friends anyone could ever have. But OUR loss is Heavens gain.
My heart goes out to all of Fred's family. If there's anything we can do, please don't hesitate. We love you guys and will keep you in our prayers. Dave & Mindy

We all have lost a great friend. A man of integrity that had a zest for life that was filled with a sense of humor. We are fortunate to have many fond memories of camping and boating with him. He was a true gentleman that we had the honor to have as a friend. God speed, Fred Bengen!! Harry & Lee Olds, Blaine WA

To all the Bengen family: I am sincerely sorry about your loss! It's comforting to me that I had the opportunity to meet and spend time with Fred. He went quickly which I hope you agree is a blessing in that he didn't have to deal with pain. What a gift Fred was to anyone that knew him. In only a few visits I know of a couple stories that came up often so I know you could probably dictate them by heart, old work stories, great memories! BIG hugs and LOTS of prayers to you all! Tom, he lives in you and the qualities you carry from him are endearing... only some of the million things I love about you. :) I think of you all every day... Big hugs to you all! Melody Grondahl
