We don't keep up with news very well so it was with great sadness to finally read the Sandy Point Sounder and learn of Fred's passing. He was always willing to help a friend, and he was a great help to Lloyd in purchasing his home at the Heights so many years ago. We are just so sorry he is gone, and we will miss him as everyone else who knew him will. Our thoughts are with the entire family.

Fred was a one of a kind guy. As a friend he never failed to be there when I needed him. He helped me countless times in my hour of need. Fred may have been old enough to be my father but, he was more like a brother. In recent years we both started a new chapter in ours lives and didn't get to see each other much. But I will never forget the lessons Fred taught me, crabbing, clamming, fishing and most of all; how to live life to it's fullest!!! We have lost one of the best friends anyone could ever have. But OUR loss is Heavens gain.
My heart goes out to all of Fred's family. If there's anything we can do, please don't hesitate. We love you guys and will keep you in our prayers. Dave & Mindy

We loved Fred, as a dear friend and next door neighbor, welcoming and friendly...very generous and kind. He always had time for a visit! Your words of wisdom, sage advice, and endless stories will never be forgotten. Our sincere condolences to your family, the amazing legacy that lives on.

We all have lost a great friend. A man of integrity that had a zest for life that was filled with a sense of humor. We are fortunate to have many fond memories of camping and boating with him. He was a true gentleman that we had the honor to have as a friend. God speed, Fred Bengen!! Harry & Lee Olds, Blaine WA

To all the Bengen family: I am sincerely sorry about your loss! It's comforting to me that I had the opportunity to meet and spend time with Fred. He went quickly which I hope you agree is a blessing in that he didn't have to deal with pain. What a gift Fred was to anyone that knew him. In only a few visits I know of a couple stories that came up often so I know you could probably dictate them by heart, old work stories, great memories! BIG hugs and LOTS of prayers to you all! Tom, he lives in you and the qualities you carry from him are endearing... only some of the million things I love about you. :) I think of you all every day... Big hugs to you all! Melody Grondahl
