J. George Van Eschen, age 87, of Lynden, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016. George was born April 27, 1929 in Geneva, Iowa to George and Nina (Janssen) Van Eschen. He graduated from Ackley High School, Iowa, and on March 13, 1948, he married Amy Lambert, in Austin, Minnesota. Together they lived in Charles City, Iowa where their three children were born. In 1953, they moved to California where George worked for Langendorf Bakeries. In 1979, the family moved to Whidbey Island, while in Washington he worked for Svenhard's Langendorf and Gais Bakeries. He retired in 1990. George enjoyed golf, traveling including cruses and especially seeing the country with Amy in their motorhome. George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Amy of Lynden, daughters Pamela Hartgraves and Stephanie Diaz; son Douglas Flatley; sister Bernice Viet of Ackley, IA; five grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
