Gerben DeBoer

The Guest Book is expired.

Lynden resident, Gerben "Gerb" DeBoer, age 88, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Gerb was born July 9, 1928 to Marius and Mary (Bouma) DeBoer. He was one of three children born and raised in Lynden and graduating from Lynden High School. After graduation, he went into dairy farming on the family farm and also worked construction for a couple of years. During this time, he married Shirley Troost on February 18, 1949 and together they had three children Carol, Gail and Morrie. They bought property out on Bay Lyn Dr. and started their own dairy farm naming it "Llan-O-West". Gerb enjoyed showing his registered Holstein's at local fairs and reginal Holstein shows. He and Shirley were charter members of Bethel Christian Reformed Church. After Gerb and Shirley retired from dairy farming, Gerb was a real estate agent. His body failed him but his mind was keen until the end. He was an interesting man with many passions--sports, rooting for his grandkids at their sporting events, politics, his registered Holsteins and big words with obscure meanings. He loved the mountains, his hunting trophies and to read about the history of the area. He was most proud of his wife and also his family and their accomplishments. Gerb is preceded in death by his parents; brothers John and Henry; brother in law Ray DeBoer and in laws Ken and Tina Troost. Gerb is survived by Shirley, his wife of 67 years; children Carol (Rod) DeJong, Gail (Kent) De Hoog and Morrie (Darlene) DeBoer; 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Also his sister in law Eileen DeBoer and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Memorials may be made to Lynden Christian Schools, 417 Lyncs Drive, Lynden, WA 98264 A time of visitation will be 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Gillies Funeral Home.
