Harriet Ann (Griffin) Sanderson went home to her Heavenly Father on July 28, 2016. Harriet Ann was the eldest and only remaining child of Richard Harold and Ida (Thompson) Griffin. She was born June 21, 1922 in Woodstock, Minnesota. In 1927 the family moved to rural Westby, Montana where she grew up as a farm girl during the Great Depression. She attended Ueland Elementary and graduated from Dooley High School in 1939. In September 1942 she enrolled in a three year nursing program at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota, graduating as a RN in May, 1945. She worked at hospitals in Plentywood Montana, Vancouver WA and St. Lukes in Bellingham, WA. On July 14, 1950 she married Kenneth R. Sanderson, who preceded her in death December 21, 2006. During their married years they spent many holidays camping and taking short trips with their family. After Kenneth's retirement they spent several winters in Yuma, AZ in their fifth wheel and eventually their little house. It was during this time that she started knitting which resulted in afghans for each grandchild and many more for friends and relatives. She was an avid reader with a book never far from her side. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a baby sister Elnora Marie, sister's Ruth Gourley and Idamae Sanderson Adams; a brother Harold H. Griffin and a grandson James Hunter Sanderson. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, William (Bill) and Tracy Sanderson, Richard (Dick) and Sharon Sanderson, Gerald (Jerry) and Carol Sanderson; three grandchildren, Shannon (Justin) Morgan, Kinsey Sanderson and Reid Sanderson; five great grandchildren, Hunter and Gage Morgan, Saylor, Orion and Asher Moses; brother-in-law Richard Gourley. Nieces and nephews including Cathy Everett and sons Sandy and Brady; Brian and Theresa Sanderson and their children Brian and Mary; Karen & Dave Knipp, their son Alex; Bruce and Michelle Gourley, Jennifer Gourley and son Bart Gourley; Steven and Susan (Gourley) Nordeen, their children Matthew and Mari, numerous cousins and friends she loved as family. Graveside services will be at 1pm on Friday, 12 Aug 2016 at Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham with Memorial service at 2pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2530 Cornwall Ave., Bellingham, WA. with a reception to follow.
