Joanne was born in Fargo, ND on November 14, 1935 to Helen and Joseph Fobes. She lived in Glyndon, MN while growing up with her parents, sister Evelyn and brothers James and Maurie; all whom preceded her in death. She met her husband Shirley in Ogden, UT where she was working for a local hospital, they were married shortly thereafter in December 1956. After a short period of time living in Oregon they moved to Seattle, WA to raise their family. After 20 plus years in Ballard the two moved to Marblemount, WA. Shirley passed away in April 1993 at which time she moved to Bellingham, WA where she remained until her death on October 9, 2016 after various health battles. As a supportive mother she raised her 4 boys - Michael (Toni), Craig, Gary (Darin) and Roy (Kelli) and was a special aunt to Karen, Duke and Shirley Jo. The love and absolute joy of her life were her grandchildren - Amy, Chelsea, Marcus, Andrea, Abby, Erika, Becky, Robbi, and Calvin and her great grandchildren Peyton, Gavyn, Hannah, Hunter, Adam, and Winifred. Her words of "love your family" sums it up. She leaves behind many friends and extended family members. Joanne had a very creative side; there wasn't a craft or hobby that she could not master and leaves a beautiful trail of her labors of love. She worked for ZBrick (which began her back issues), Seattle Cascades Bingo and H&R Block while living in Ballard. Genealogy became a passion of hers and she provided us with a window into our past. She gave back to her communities and supported her boys through her volunteerism in all activities they were involved; she was never just on the sidelines. The Mariners and Seahawks were her chosen teams and there was Angry Birds in the off season. Her kindness, generosity, selflessness, sense of humor and her smile touched all who were fortunate enough to have been blessed to cross paths with her. Special thanks to the staffs at PeaceHealth St Joseph and Mount Baker Kidney Center for being there for her over the years. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday October 17th @ 2:00 pm at Hampton Inn's Fox Hall, located at 3985 Bennett Drive, Bellingham, WA 98225(Take I-5 N to Exit 258, make a left onto Bakerview. At the second Light take a right. Hampton Inn will be on your left) In lieu of flower please consider a donation to National MS Society, Greater NorthWest Chapter in her memory.
