Kenneth Stone Obituary

Kenneth Duane Stone passed away Sat., Jan. 15, 2011 in Bellingham, WA, of complications of cancer and dementia. He was born in Puyallup, WA on Dec. 1, 1930, and grew up in Prosser. Ken served in the Air Force during the Korean War as a radar technician, and Saudi Arabia was part of his tour of duty. Just before discharge, he met Peggy Sue Austin, of Banks, AL, and they were married July 17, 1954, in Louisville, AL. They came to WA State, and first made their home in Prosser, where he managed Taggares Market. In 1957 he accepted a position with Pacific Fruit and Produce Co. in Bellingham, and worked there until retirement. Their last home was in Ferndale. He is survived by his wife Peggy, and their 3 children: Debra Fisher (Dave, deceased), Jennifer Huge (Bruce) and Kenneth Stone, Jr. (Phyllis). Their eight grandchildren are David, Michelle, Alex, Brian, Jeff, Ben, Nicole and Scott. His brothers are Irvin Stone and Elwood Stone of Prosser, and Delbert Stone of Sunnyside. Preceding Ken in death were his parents, Myrvin and Ethel Stone, and brothers Acy Stone and Ronald Stone of Prosser. Ken loved his family, and its activities and games: cards, puzzles, camping, fishing, traveling, and even the casino. He was active in the Geneva Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Ferndale Senior Center, and was a member of the American Legion for many years. He leaves a legacy of a family who loved him dearly. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Community Lodge, 6350 Portal Drive in Ferndale on Jan. 29, at 1:00 P.M. Special thanks to the staff of The Courtyard for their loving care of Ken. Memorials may be made to Youth Dynamics, P. O. Box 486, Burlington, WA 98233, or Whatcom Hospice, 800 E. Chestnut, Suite l-C, Bellingham, WA 98225.
