Kenneth Backman Obituary

Kenneth Edward Backman passed away on April 10, 2011, on his 78th birthday in Bellingham, WA. He was born on April 10, 1933, in Renton, WA to Matts Leander Backman and Ida Johanna (Kronquist) Backman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Elma Haywood and Vega Sneddon and his brother Clarence Backman. Ken is survived by his wife Clarice whom he married in 1961. Son Eric (Sarah), grandsons Nathan and Caiden and daughter Sara Backman. Nephews Bill Haywood, Reg (Marie) Haywood and their families. John Sneddon and his family and Doug Sneddon. Sister in law Sue (Dave) Munro and their families. Brother in law Doug (Sharon) Nyhus and their families. He also leaves many cousins in Finland. Ken served in the Army during the Korean War. He received a business degree from the University of Washington and a teaching degree from Western Washington University. Ken retired from Boeing in 1993. Ken and Clarice then moved to Bellingham in 1994. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing and trap shooting all his life. Along with working out at the fitness club three times a week, being outside even if it meant riding the lawn mower mowing the grass. His two grandsons loved riding with Grandpa. Ken was the soup and spaghetti sauce maker. He enjoyed cooking soup for home and the Lynden Shotgun Club. Please join the family for a Celebration of Ken's life on Wednesday, April 20, from 2-4 p.m. at 4275 Squalicum Lake Road.
