Leroy Koehn Obituary

LeRoy James Koehn passed away in Ferndale on Saturday, April 16, 2011. He was 79, born January 18, 1932 in Taloga, OK to David T. and Elinda Koehn. LeRoy joined the United States Army in 1954, and served with the 58th Field Artillery in Puerto Rico. LeRoy married Rowena Voth in 1960. He enjoyed camping, traveling, target shooting, and was an avid reader until his eyesight declined. He was interested in archaeology, especially ancient Egypt, and also in WWII history and aircraft. One of the highlights of his later years was when he had the opportunity to fly in a B-17 bomber over Bellingham. LeRoy shared an interest in gold prospecting and dredging with his son. LeRoy was a member of Gold Prospectors Association of America, and a member of NRA. He was baptized and became a member of the Glendale Mennonite Church. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rowena; children, Lori, Scott, Shelli; and his sister Leona Workentin. Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice. Services will be held at a later date.
