Lucy Worden, age 93, of Lynden passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 from her final battle with Cancer. She was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Lucy was born and raised near Konigsberg, East Prussia (now Russia) on Sept. 29, 1922. She was the youngest of five children born to Friedrich and Emilia Waesch. After graduation from high school she pursued a career in communication at a German Telephone Company. During her employment she learned tele typing and later became a telephone operator. While being an operator she learned five languages because she lived around various countries and had to converse with native dialects and tongues. Lucy enjoyed life very much as a young women, and a particular highlight she always remembered, was in early 1953 while living in Mannheim Germany, she and her girlfriends visited a gast house (German pub) to have a relaxing evening and possibly do some dancing. While being there one evening she noticed an American Soldier, a recent arrival to Germany, who had just served in the Korean War. He had just been assigned to a base near Lucy's home. While wondering how to meet him, to her surprise he made a straight line towards her and asked her for a dance. With this unexpected encounter started a relationship and marriage that would last over 50 years, until his passing away in 2004. This soldier was our dad Claude Worden. She and dad traveled to many places during his army career. They lived in Germany, France and many army bases throughout the United States. After retiring from the military, they returned to Whatcom County and resided in the Lynden area in 1974. Lucy enjoyed being a homemaker and loved playing music at the Lynden senior center. She played her mandolin every chance she had, it was one of her favorite hobbies. She was preceded in death by her husband Claude, by her parents and her 4 siblings who lived in Germany and Poland. She is survived by her son Thomas of Lynden and daughter Lorna Baumeister (Dieter) of Germany. She also has 2 grandchildren and a great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Lucy will be sorely missed. Her final request was to have a private memorial to celebrate her life. Her thought was " I am in heaven with Jesus, so please don't be saddened at my departure on earth, we shall meet again soon". Lastly, the family would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to the various care givers and doctors that gave tirelessly in assisting our mother Lucy. They include Meadow Greens, Christian Health Care, St. Joseph's Hospital, Lynden Medical Center and Bellingham Hospice. From all of us, thank you and God bless you. Arrangements,
