Marie Dunn Obituary

Marie Dunn, age 88, passed away Monday, April 18, 2011 at her home in Blaine. Marie was born on March 20, 1923 in Hadsel, Norway to Andrew and Marit Berg. She was raised in Seattle and graduated from Ballard High School. She married Edward Dunn on January 24, 1942 and they moved to Blaine in 1943. While their children were growing up, Marie was a room mother in a Blaine Elementary classroom each year, a Boy Scout Den Mother, and a Brownie assistant leader. Later in life, she volunteered at the Blaine Food Bank for 13 years, where she was also a board member. Marie was an inspiring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, as well as a talented gardener and an excellent Scrabble player. She and Ed spent 63 happy years making each other laugh and admiring sunsets over Drayton Harbor from their backyard. Marie is survived by her son, Edward Dunn Jr. (Emily) of Garibaldi, OR; daughters Susan Oltrogge (Terry) of Hot Springs Village, AR; Joan Giard (Jack) of Lopez Island; Julie Mayer (Walt) of Sedro Woolley; grandchildren Kathie Flood (Russ Glaeser), Shannon Feenstra, Jackie Flood, Reid Campion (Stephana), Andrea Campion, Nicholle Flood, Amber McPhail (John), Chad Dunn, Kelly Shorten (Travis), Jake Mayer, Luke Mayer; step-grandchildren Janet Johnson, Cal Sullivan and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Whatcom Hospice Foundation (800 E. Chestnut, Suite LL1, Bellingham WA 98225) or to the Blaine Food Bank (500 C St, Blaine WA 98230).
