Marjorie Kaufman Obituary
Marjorie Ethel Clark Kaufman was born Aug. 23, 1918, at Ainsworth, Neb., to Tom and Ethel Clark. She was the third of three children. She was a healthy 7½ lb. newborn but her mother, Ethel came down with the flu that was epidemic that year and Marjorie weighed only 8 lbs. at 6 months, a "scrawny" squalling baby during her first year. She lived her first 8 years on a farm north of Ainsworth. She attended a small country school and liked learning and the other children. At age 8, she and her parents, brother Marion and sister Vera moved to Cozad, Neb., where she graduated from high school. Her favorite subject was math! Marjorie was baptized into the Christian Church at age 12 and grew to love the Lord. She taught rural schools for about three years. On May 31, 1939, she and Karl Kaufman married at Norton, Kansas. They made their first home in South Gate, Calif., returning to Cozad in 1944. To this union were born six children: Karla Sue, Nancy Belle, John Stephen, Thomas James, Cynthia Lee and David Karl. They homesteaded in Cody, Wyo., and in Rupert, Idaho, where they helped build a new church. Though times often were hard, these also were good years, with lots of friends. Karla and Nancy graduated from Minidoka High School in Idaho. Karl and Marjorie vacationed along the Oregon coast north to Blaine, Wash., and were so impressed with the area's natural beauty that they moved to Blaine, where they enjoyed lots of friends and a happy life. They cofounded Broadway Christian Church in Bellingham, where they served for more than 20 years. John, Tom, Cindy and David graduated from Blaine High School. Marjorie and Karl returned to Cozad about 1992 and enjoyed retirement, traveling to Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Wyoming and Alaska. Marjorie leaves her husband Karl, the six children and their families, and numerous nieces and nephews. * * * Marjorie wrote her own obituary. She died March 10, 2011, in Lincoln, Neb., and was buried there in Wyuka Cemetery on March 14, a warm spring day. She will be missed by her entire family, who loved her dearly and deeply appreciated the caring and joy she brought into their lives. Condolences may be sent in care of Tom Kaufman, 6100 Saddle Creek Drive, Lincoln, NE 68510.
