Roy, as we all knew him was born in East Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Edna and James Bentley. One of 11 children. His love of movies and theatre started as youngster. Proceeds from his paper route, allowed him to spend countless hours going to the movies. That translated as an adult to his accomplishments as Ferndale High School's much loved and respected English and Drama teacher, as well as his long time connection with his extended family at the Bellingham Theatre Guild. His legacy there is marked by the Bentley Awards. Roy passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and our Angels. Our deep appreciation to them and the Hospice nurses. Roy is survived by his beloved wife Roxie, family Rory, Angie, Amanda, Patrick, Erwin, numerous nephews and nieces, his surrogate grandchildren and dear friends. As per his wishes there will be no services at this time. But by all means raise a glass, give a toast to a man who was one of a kind. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the or Whatcom Hospice.
