Phillip Campbell Obituary

Phillip Thomas Campbell, born November 13, 1914, in Laurel, Washington, died at the age of 96 at his home in Edmonds, WA on January 29, 2011. Raised on his family farm, Phil attended Bellingham State Normal School and then the University of Washington, where he majored in journalism. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, quickly becoming an officer. He served in Saipan during WWII and, after serving in the Washington Air National Guard, was discharged as a major. He and his wife, Joan H. Campbell (Hoppe) raised four children in Bellingham where he was a salesman for Pacific American Fisheries. In 1968, his family left Bellingham and moved to Seattle where he became Vice President of Sales for Peter Pan Seafoods until his retirement in 1981. Phil sang with Jan in the church choir of Edmonds Presbyterian Church for many years. He was known for his kindly presence and helpful advice. Phil loved being out in his garden, especially when his home was overflowing with loving (hungry, boisterous) family and friends. We have all been touched by his wisdom, humor, and love. He will always be cherished by Joan, his wife of 68 years, their children Ginna Wenz, Nancy Moyer, Tom Campbell, Rob Campbell, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many loving friends and relatives. His grandson, David Wenz, preceded him in death. A memorial service was held on February 5th at Edmonds Presbyterian church.
