Ramona C. Barker (Mona), 75, passed away on August 22, 2013 at her home in Anchorage, Alaska. She was born on April 21, 1938. Mona became a resident of Anchorage in 1959. Ramona Craig was born in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. When she was 4 years old her parents moved to California. She was raised in Huntington Beach, CA and attended Peperdine University and USC. In 1959 Mona drove to Alaska with 3 girlfriends. She decided to stay when she found that there were 25 men for every woman. But not in Fairbanks where she lived for 4 years before making Anchorage her home. She traveled all over Alaska as a secretary for a FAA doctor. She worked for Richfield Oil before starting her own bookkeeping service. Then married her lucky 1 in 25 husband, Kirk Barker, January 2, 1965. Mona requested no funeral or memorial service. Instead she wanted folks to have dinner with someone special and make a toast with a glass of wine or beverage of their choice. She was proud of being president of the Anchorage Opera Guild, the Providence Hospital Auxiliary and her lifetime membership in Opera Volunteers International (OVi).
