Robert Beech Obituary

Robert (Bob) Gordon Beech: Son, Brother, Husband, Father and Grandfather. Born February 1, 1934, passed March 28, 2011 after a courageous 4 year fight with cancer. He will be truly missed, not only by his family but also by many, many dear friends. Bob was born in London England. He survived the V2 rockets and the buzz bombs of World War II and could tell great stories about his experiences throughout the war. He emigrated to Canada with his parents when he was 13. They settled in Vancouver B.C. where he attended King Edward High School. Graduating at 16 he went to work for Marshal Wells, a wholesale hardware company. He married and had two children, living in Prince George B.C. where Bob traveled extensively for Marshal Wells. In 1962 the family moved back to Vancouver. He divorced, remarried in 1970, and moved to Bellingham Washington. There he and his wife Anne bought the Rainbow Inn Tavern, remodeled it into the Beech House Pub and ran a very successful business. They sold the Pub in 1996 and put their energy into property management, investing in apartment buildings. He is survived by his wife and partner of 41 years Anne Beech; his daughter Barbara (John) Mathews of White Rock, B.C.; son Rod (Sharon) Beech of Abbotsford, B.C.; son Kevin (Shaerna) Beech of Bellingham, WA; grandchildren Zachary and Erin Mathews, Kyle and Morgan Beech, and Xavier and Cathrina Beech; sister Cynthia Treadaway, and many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Joan Beech; sister Dorothy LaBarge; brother-in law Arthur LaBarge; nephew John LaBarge and brother-in law Bill Treadaway. A service will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Moles Bayview Chapel in Bellingham. Bob's personal request was that in lieu of flowers, donations to two of his grandchildren's school, Whatcom Day Academy in Bellingham, WA, would be most appreciated. Bob, what a pleasure it has been knowing and working with you all these years. Just the sound of your voice on the other end of the phone always put a smile on my face. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. I'm truly sorry for your family's loss.
