A lifelong Whatcom County resident, Carolyn M. Kriz, age 75, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the Christian Health Care Center in Lynden. She was born January 31, 1937 in Bellingham to Elmer and Clara (Syre) Anderson. She graduated from Nooksack Valley High School. While attending Pacific Lutheran University to obtain her music education degree, Carolyn also was a vocalist with the Choir of the West. Music defined who Carolyn was as she began her music teaching career in Utah; for many years after she taught in the Nooksack Valley School District. As a lifelong member of Clearbrook Lutheran Church, she was the organist for church services for decades. Locally, she accompanied vocalists, played for weddings, funerals, graduations and she sang in The Whatcom Chorale. On August 25, 1989 she was married to George Kriz at Clearbrook Lutheran Church.
Preceded in death by her parents and brother Ellwyn Anderson; Carolyn is survived by husband, George Kriz; son, Erik (Paula) Leininger of Everson and their children Claire, Matthew, Emily and Megan; daughter, Sonja (Eric) Dyer and their son, Emmett of Ellensburg, WA; step-son, Kenneth (Wendy) Kriz and their children Rubi and Mia of Elliott City, MD and step-daughter Michelle Kriz of Bellingham.
Visitation hours are scheduled for Wednesday, December 19, 4 to 7 pm at Gillies Funeral Home. Burial will be Thursday, December 20, 1:15 pm in Lakeside Cemetery followed by a 2:00 pm memorial service at Clearbrook Lutheran Church, 9691 Van Buren Road, Lynden.
