Lloyd E. Van Boven, age 92 of Lynden, was taken to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Dec. 30, at the Christian Health Care Center in Lynden.
Born in Hull, North Dakota on July 26, 1920, Lloyd was the son of Gerrit and Anna (Dornbush) Van Boven. He grew up in Hull where he graduated from high school. Lloyd taught grade school in the Hull area before being inducted into the Army Air Force in November 1942 serving as an airborne radar operator. While in the service, Lloyd married Evelyn Hollaar on March 13, 1945 in Hull. Following his discharge in February 1946, they moved to Lynden and then the Everson area. Lloyd was employed as a salesman/repairman at the Farmer's Mercantile, then DeWaard & Bode Appliances in Lynden for forty-four years, retiring in 1989. Lloyd enjoyed his small farm that provided milk and meat for their growing family. Following his retirement Lloyd volunteered at Lynden Christian School's Paper Baler fund raising operation. He was a devoted husband who spent much time caring for his wife in her declining years. Lloyd and Evelyn were members of the Everson Christian Reformed Church and later Wiser Lake Chapel.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn, who died in March 2009, sons Roger and Galen, and brothers John Harold and Stanley Van Boven. He is survived by his children Alan (Virginia) Van Boven of Kirkland, WA, Sharon Thompson of Bellingham, John (Gladys) Van Boven of Everson, David (Marjorie) Van Boven of Salem, OR, Doug Van Boven of Bellingham, Gerrit (Elaine - deceased) Van Boven of Gillette, WY, Jean (Don) Taylor-Byers of Bellingham, Loren (Adria) Van Boven of Everson, Randy (Candy) Van Boven of Lynden and Renae (Eric) Erickson of Lynden; thirty-one grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren; brother Dennis (Marlyn Faye) Van Boven of Hull, ND, sister Carol (Arlin) Int Veldt of Strasburg, ND, sister-in-law Esther Van Boven and numerous other relatives.
Memorial funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 4, at 2:00 p.m. in Faith Christian Fellowship, (formerly Everson Christian Reformed Church) at 109 W 3rd St. in Everson with the Reverend Homer Wigboldy officiating. Private burial with Military Honors will precede the service in Monumenta Cemetery in Lynden.
