Sharon L. (Gatton) Hemmick, 67, of Mansfield, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 following a lengthy illness.

Born in Bellville, OH on July 7, 1947 to Jack D. and Naomi E. (Farst) Gatton, Sharon attended Elkhart University after high school and married in 1966. She settled in Cincinnati and spent twenty years there where she enjoyed a career in retail, an active church life, lovingly raised two sons, and, of course, cheered on the Big Red Machine.

Upon returning to Bellville, Sharon continued her church life, attending the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also continued her retail career and ultimately held the position of Human Resources Manager at Macy's department store.

Sharon was artistic and creative with many talents, including flower gardening, knitting, and baking. Her legendary ham loaf recipe made Sunday afternoons complete. She was an avid reader and loved to support The Ohio State Buckeyes. Sharon had a natural eye for fashion in both clothing and interior design, and this showed through her impeccable dress and beautifully decorated homes. She also enjoyed dancing and loved all kinds of music, though she was partial to her son's original work.

Sharon was a friend to many and touched many lives. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by two sons, Matthew W. Hemmick and Rob W. Hemmick (Tracy Bond) of Mansfield; and two siblings, Larry D. (Sharry) Gatton and Bet G. Spoon of Bellville.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents.

Calling hours will be from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, LTD., 1106 Park Ave. E. (St. Rt. 430 E), in Mansfield. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Mike Cloud officiating.
