Matthew Dailey Obituary

Matthew "Jack" Dailey 1918 - 2012 NAPERVILLE, IL Matthew John "Jack" Dailey, age 93, of Naperville, passed into a new life with the Lord on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at his daughter's home in Naperville, Illinois. Jack lived previously at the Devonshire Senior Living Center in Lisle, Ill., having moved there from Midland, Mich., in 2006, where he lived for 33 years. Prior homes were in Bay Village, Ohio, and Bennington, Vt. Jack was born June 25, 1918, in Norwood, Mass., and lived in many New England communities before moving to Ohio with his Aunt Ella and Uncle Charlie during his high school years. A graduate of Ohio State University and a retiree of the Dow Chemical Company, Jack married his college sweetheart, Betty Jane McDill, in 1940. They were very happily married for 67 years before Betty passed in October 2007. Jack is the cherished father of seven children, 18 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. The "magnificent seven" (Jack's words for his children) are Jane A. (Dennis) McCue of Largo, FL, John C. (Jane) Dailey of Winter Park, CO, Nancy G. (Edward) Ekis of Naperville, IL, Kathleen (Roger) Becker of Panama City Beach, FL, Sharron M. Hill of Midland, MI, Elizabeth J. (Paul) Lucero of Palatine, IL and Patricia E. (Michael) Roer of Marinette, WI. Jack was a happy man and friend to all. He had a contagious zest for life, found real joy in giving to others, and genuine interest in all who ever crossed his path. He freely shared his spirituality and faith in God with family and those who might need a little extra love and encouragement. He was a man of great integrity, an outstanding role model, and an inspiration to many. His grandchildren called him Pop; his great-grandchildren knew him as Pop the Great. He loved good humor, walking on a beach, fresh fish and seafood, the Boston Red Sox, playing golf, bowling, and card games - bridge, hearts, and poker. He was forever faithful to his wife, children, family, and the Lord. He was a man of great honor and will be missed so much. To Jack's Family. I was pastor at St. Brigid from 1984-1990.
Jack was an ever present fixture and a true servant of God. He was also a person of great joy, with a contagious smile. I mourn his passing , but rejoice that he is in his true home.

Our sympathy goes out to the family of a very special man. His memory will be with you forever.
We knew Jack and Betty from their many dedicated years at St. Brigid in Midland. I served on several committees with Jack and had a deep respect for his knowledge and willingness to serve others. He will be remembered by many.

I am sorry to have been unable to attend today's services, but wish to extend my sincerest sympathy for your loss. Though I have not had the opportunity to visit with Uncle Jack in a number of years my life was enriched by his presence. Best to the "magnificent seven" and hope our paths cross in the future.
