Christopher Smith Obituary

October 6, 2017, Christopher David Smith, born on April 12, 1960, a native of Hoosick Falls, NY and Bennington, VT died suddenly in Santa Cruz, CA.

Christopher was a graduate of the Hoosac School, Hoosick Falls, NY (class of 1978) and Southern Vermont College, Bennington, VT in 1983. After his graduation from college, he moved to California and was employed by the YMCA, became a Veterinary Nurse, and worked as a research biologist for Roche Pharmaceuticals at Stanford University.

Christopher left Roche after 20 years and went into his first love, coaching sports. He became an outstanding coach for girls' and young women's softball, leading a number of teams into championships in California, Colorado, and Canada. The young women who played for "Coach Chris" often followed him through the years from team to team. He was noted for his caring but disciplined methods.

Christopher leaves behind his parents, Peter and Mary-Lou Smith, now of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, his daughter, Arielle Swan-Smith of Monterrey, CA and his significant other, Jean Plummer of Santa Cruz, CA. He also leaves behind many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

Always a giving person, Christopher donated his organs so that others might live. Now he is in God's arms.
