Richard Bisson Obituary

NORTH POWNAL -- The North Pownal Congregational Church was filled with friends and family Friday for the funeral service of Richard D. Bisson. Conducting the service was the Rev. Gary Rogers, pastor. Personal reflections and memories were shared by many family members and friends who spoke fondly of Mr. Bisson and the positive influence he had upon their lives.

Pianist Dorothy Williams accompanied the congregation in singing “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” Soloist Eric Kearns sang “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Bagpiper Doreen Forney played during the processional and recessional at the church.

Burial followed in the family lot in North Pownal Cemetery with Pastor Rogers offering the committal prayers. The funeral procession was escorted to the cemetery by the Pownal Fire Department, which formed an honor guard at the cemetery and church. Serving as bearers were Mr. Bisson’s grandsons: Zachary Rose, Brady Rose, Tyler Rose, Dustin Rose, Brandon Jacobsen, Chris Bisson and Bradley Darling.

A memorial reception followed the services at the American Legion Hall in Pownal.

Among the many people attending the calling hours on Thursday evening were business associates, fellow stock car enthusiasts, members of the Pownal Fire Department and Pownal Valley Fire Departments.

Mr. Bisson, 65, a resident of Route 346, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Sandy, from the very first time you and Dick came into our store in North Pownal, you guys made us feel like family. Dick was always there to help when I had problems with the plumbing or heat or just to lend a helping hand. We have watched the kids grow up into fine people. We will all miss Dick and will think of him often. Our hearts are with you all.

Sandy and Family,
So sorry to hear about Dick's passing from my Dad. I am sure that you are all relieved that his suffering won't be prolonged. When I have been home on the farm, I've always smiled when Dad would say there goes Billy and Dick going to the races many times with a car full of kids! What special memories you all will have for a long time.
