Walter J. Grill
1935-2013 Walter J. Grill, 77, of DeLancey, New York went to be with his Lord with his beloved family at his side on Friday, November 8, 2013. He was born on December 14, 1935 in Mount Vernon, New York, the first son of Joseph and Dorothea Grill. In 1946 the family moved to Goodyear Lake. Walter was a 1954 graduate of Oneonta High School. He received a BA degree, with honors, from Hartwick College in 1958, majoring in mathematics and earned a Master's degree from SUNY Oneonta in 1961. After completing 10 years as a secondary mathematics teacher, he entered private industry and retired from Amphenol Corporation in 1992 as a mathematician-accountant. Walter was a communicant of St. John's Episcopal Church in Delhi and served as a Vestryman. An avid student of modern military history, his favorite viewing on TV was the History Channel. Stamp collecting was also an interest of his. In sports he was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed participating in golf, as well as fishing with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 55 years Florence Grill, and children, John Grill and wife Kathi of Watervliet, Dr. Christopher Grill and wife Laura of East Greenbush, Mary Cottrell of Hoosick Falls, and Pamela Metlicke and husband Wayne of Delhi. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer Grill, Sarah Grill, Justin, Ryan, Lauren and Brooke Cottrell and Katherine and Hannah Grill, a brother Joseph Grill of Keystone Heights, Florida and several nieces. Walter was predeceased by his parents and a son-in-law, Jeffrey Cottrell. FUNERAL NOTICE: Visitation with the family will be at St. John's Church on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at noon followed by the Holy Eucharist of the Faithful Departed at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice; the Hamden-Delhi Fire department, Delhi, or St. John's Episcopal Church.
