1924 - 2014 HOOSICK FALLS, NY Daniel Brandi, 99, passed away on Wednesday April 23, at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY. He formerly resided on Church Street in Hoosick Falls. He and his brother Anthony owned and operated Brandi's Shoe Store on Church Street in Hoosick Falls. Daniel was born on Oct. 12, 1914, in Belvedere, Italy, son of the late Louis and Rose Renda Brandi. He attended school in Hoosick Falls. His father wanted him to learn a trade at a early age so, at the age of 12, he apprenticed under John Handakas, who had a shoe store on Elm Street in Hoosick Falls. After working in the Handakas shop, Dan began his own business from his home and, in the 1930's, he opened his own shop on Elm Street. In the 1940's, Dan left his craft to serve his country during WW II. He returned to Hoosick Falls after the war to have his brother, Tony, join him in the shoe repair shop. Dan enjoyed bowling, bocce ball, golf, dancing and horse racing. Survivors include his brother, Anthony Paul Brandi of Hoosick Falls, and his nieces and nephews, Edward, Nancy, Jay, Terry, Kathleen, Michael, and Cecelia. He is predeceased by a sister, Mary Brandi and brothers, Frank (Grace), Guy (Carmela), and Joseph (Lillian). FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday April 26, at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, on Friday April 25 from 4:00 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. The family would like to thank the staff at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for their kind care given to Daniel.
