Lawrence "Tot" Farr

1933 - 2013 BENNINGTON Lawrence I. "Tot" Farr, 79, a resident of Oakes Street, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at his residence, following a long illness. Tot was born in the family farmhouse on Elder Road in Lincoln, Vt., on Nov. 8, 1933. At the age of one, he moved to Bristol when his parents, Harvey and Pauline Farr, purchased a farm there. Tot received his education in the Bristol schools where he played both basketball and baseball on the high school teams. He was an Army veteran. In earlier years, Tot was employed on highway construction projects around the state. He also worked as a driver for Merrill Transport before driving for St. Johnsbury Express for 27 years until his retirement. Tot was recognized for achieving the award for "A Million Miles of Accident Free Driving" while working for St. Johnsbury. An avid hunter, Tot received one of the initial permits for Moose hunting when the sport was reinstated in Vermont after a one hundred year absence. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and his greatest pleasure was time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Tot married the former Louise Casey in Bristol on Oct. 18, 1958. Tot and Louise would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this October. Survivors include his wife, Louise Farr of Bennington; three daughters, Kelly Langlais and husband, Alan, of Sunderland, Colleen Sausville and husband, P.J., and Pamela Farr and Philip Sausville, all of Bennington; seven grandchildren, Michael Langlois and his wife, Morgan, Casey Conklin, Christina Gronowski, Wendy Jean Sausville, Jacob Sausville and Noelle and Marc Langlais; four great-grandchildren, Cherylynn, Lexie, Joey and Ridge; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Betty Farr of Bristol; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Farr of Windsor; a brother-in-law, James Casey of Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Tot was predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl F. Conklin; by two sons, Steven and William Farr, and a brother, Harvey Farr. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at 12 noon from the MAHAR SON FUNERAL HOME. At Tot's request, it is the wish of the family that everyone come to the service in business casual clothing.no suits or ties please. Friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
