Richard L. France
1935-2013 WOODFORD Richard L. France, 78, a long-time resident of Woodford, died peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls. Born in Bennington on April 14, 1935, he was the son of the late Albert A. and Elnora (Knapp) France. Dick received his education in the Woodford and Bennington schools. Dick was a proud veteran of the U. S. Navy serving for four years in the submarine fleet. He married the former Rayalda Proulx in Bennington on October 21, 1983. Dick was a plumber by trade and was employed by both Henry M. Tuttle Company and Willie Morse. Dick's last employment prior to retirement was at Crescent Manor Care Center where he was Director of Maintenance. Dick served concurrently as a Bennington County Deputy Sheriff for 42 years and in the Vermont State Police Auxiliary for 28 years. He was a member of Mt. Anthony Lodge F&AM, the Shriners, American Legion Post 13 and Bennington Elks Lodge
567. He was also a member of the United States Submarine Veterans. Dick rode a motorcycle for many years, enjoyed playing golf, camping and spent the last 12 winters in Florida. Surviving him are his wife Rayalda; grandchildren, Megan, Devin and Michael France; 3 great-grandchildren and his former wife, Ellen Stewart Crawford. He is survived by cousins Thomas and Cherrie Sweet, and Peter and Patty Sweet. He is also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Margaret and Hubert Boudreau, Barbara and Felix Hinojosa, Colleen DeGrace, James and Patricia Proulx, Mary and Steve Simpson, Daine and Charles Bleau, and Cindy and Dean Yarnal and by many nieces and nephews. A son, Robert and a grandson, Branden, predeceased him. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Robin Greene officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM when the family will be in attendance. A private committal service will take place at the family lot in Woodford Cemetery. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Richard L. France's memory may be made to Mt.
