Roy David Crofut

1919-2014 WEST ARLINGTON Roy David Crofut, 94, a resident of Route 313 in West Arlington, passed away Thursday January 9, 2014 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. Roy was born in Bennington, Vermont at home on Colgate Farm on March 23, 1919 the son of Sidney and Rena (Somers) Crofut. Roy attended Arlington schools, graduating from Arlington High School, class of 1937 and was a United States Army veteran of World War II. Roy worked as a self employed house painter throughout his working career. Roy was a member of the Red Mountain Lodge F&AM and a member of the Battenkill Grange for over seventy-five years and a charter member of the Arlington Rescue Squad. Roy dedicated his life to the Grange, acting as Grange Master for twenty six years and always kept up the maintenance on the Grange grounds. Roy enjoyed deer hunting and was still active as a deer hunter until the age of ninety. He enjoyed collecting steam engines, would travel to fairs to view steam engines and was a model for Norman Rockwell. Roy enjoyed making maple syrup and puttering around his home. He enjoyed listening to country music and was a NASCAR fan of Rusty Wallace. Roy cherished times spent with his family especially Sunday evening and Holiday dinners. Roy is survived by his wife the former Mabel Johnson of West Arlington, whom he married on October 30, 1947 in Bennington, daughters Donna Young and her husband Denny of Bennington, Brenda Holton and her husband Richard of Arlington and Susan Hoyt and Ed of West Arlington, his son Glenn Crofut and his wife Brenda of West Arlington, grandchildren Denise, Denny, Angie, Josh, Derek, Kelsey, Kyle and Kolby, nine great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Roy will be held Tuesday January 14, 2014 at 2pm at The Chapel on the Green in West Arlington. Rev. Keith Mann will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in West Arlington Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday evening from 6-8pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Arlington Chapel when the family will be in attendance. Members of Red Mountain Lodge F&AM, the Battenkill Grange and American Legion Post 69 are invited to the funeral home at 6:30pm to conduct their services.
