A. Edwin Wilczynski 1925-2010 MANCHESTER A. Edwin Wilczynski, age 85, passed away on the evening of Sunday August 8, 2010 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Edwin was born in Northampton, on January 6, 1925. He grew up on a farm in South Deerfield, and was educated in South Deerfield Schools. Edwin married his beloved Elizabeth Withington of Northampton, in the summer of 1961. Edwin graduated from the University of Massachusetts Stockbridge School of Agriculture in 1963, and began his long professional career in Golf Course Management, where he served as Superintendent at Blue Hill GC in Pearl River, N.Y. during the 1960's. In 1969 Edwin moved with his family to Manchester Center, where he served as Superintendent of the Manchester Country Club from 1969 until his retirement in 1987. After retiring he would often help in maintaining the grounds at the Ekwanok CC in Manchester. For many years Edwin was a very active member of the VTt. Golf Course Superintendents Association, serving as its President in 1981-1982, and was a long time member of the Manchester Lions Club, and also helped out with the Bromley Outing Clubs Junior Instructional Ski Program (JISP) as a volunteer instructor to many area school children. Edwin loved to tell stories of his life growing up on the farm, and his love of skiing which began as a young man. He skied many ski areas around Vermont and New England, including Hillman's Ravine in N.H. Edwin loved being with his friends, and his family, and especially his grandchildren. In his later years he enjoyed tending to his garden, playing golf, hiking at Lye Brook Wilderness Area, walking around his neighborhood, and participating in the many Precision Walk competitions held at the Manchester Recreation Center. Edwin also loved to sketch, draw and would sometimes sit down and paint a picture. Edwin is pre-deceased by his father, Albert Wilczynski and his mother, Frances Agnes Rokoszak Wilczynski, of South Deefield, his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Withington Wilczynski, and also his brother, Peter Swalauk, formerly of Jacksonville, Fla.. He is survived by two sons, Stephen Withington Wilczynski, and his wife, Amy Suzanne Wilczynski and their children, Henry and Elizabeth, of Weare, N.H., and Robert Sidney Wilczynski and his wife, Amanda Maleson Spencer, and their children Gavin, Griffin, and Tobias, of Winooski, Vt., a sister Agnes Drewniany and her husband, Henry "Hank" Drewniany of Windsor, Conn., and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and many cousins. His family would like to thank all of his many friends, who helped Edwin over the years after the death of his beloved wife Betsy, and especially the nurses and staff at The Equinox Terrace in Manchester, for all of their care and support over the last year and a half.
