Obituary Condolences

Agnes Mears-Van 1926 - 2009 BENNINGTON Agnes M. Mears-Van, 82, passed away at her home on Jan. 18, 2009, surrounded by her loving family and her beloved dog Ginger. Agnes was born on March 30, 1926, in Manchester, Vt., daughter of Ernest Mears and Jennie Kent Mears Bushee. Agnes received her education in Manchester, Vt., and retired from Union Carbide in Bennington. Agnes was known to all who knew her as a strong, genuine, loving, hardworking and independent woman. She enjoyed spending time with her dog Ginger, playing Bingo, buying scratch lottery tickets, and watching an occasional I Love Lucy, Little House on the Prairie, or Price is Right episode. But most importantly, Agnes was most in love with her family. She was a life-long provider, caregiver and protector of her children, her husband and all those that she loved. Through the most trying and difficult times, she proved to us over and over that a strong will can withstand anything. Agnes lived and survived for her children, her family and her loving husband Harry R. Van. She was an inspiration to us all and she will remain in our hearts and memories forever. She leaves her four children, Linda Shultz, her primary caregiver Carol Gates, Gary Mears and Debbie Allen. 11 grandchildren, Caedy Shultz-Loomis, Patty Shultz, Denise and Lisa Gates who offered her respite care, Jennifer Gates, Michael Gates, Jessica Mears, Jimmy Mears, Josh Mears, Misti Granger and Sean Allen. 12 great grandsons, one great-granddaughter, two great-great-grandsons, three great-great-granddaughters; two sisters; Helen Judge and Edna Ranzona, several nieces, nephews and her best friend and companion, her dog Ginger. She was pre-deceased by her soul mate, and loving husband, Harry R. Van, three brothers Lewis Mears, Bernard Mears and Donald Mears, two sisters, Mildred Caron and Isabelle Mears, one grandson Scott Joseph Gates and her three dogs, Puddles, Terry and Lucky. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from Saint Peters Episcopal Church in Bennington on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Neal of Saint James Episcopal Church officiating. Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday from noon to 1:30 p.m. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.
