Agnes. M. Powers

1917-2010 HOOSICK FALLS, NY Agnes Mary Knapp Powers, 92, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Centers for Living & Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt., where she resided since 2001.

Born on Oct. 27, 1917, in Bennington, daughter of Edward and Margaret Downer Knapp, she was educated at schools in Bennington. Agnes worked at the Albany Felt Company until retiring in 1979.

A devout catholic, she was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls where she was very active. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, a Eucharist Minister at the church, an honorary alum of St. Mary's Academy, past president of St. Mary's Auxiliary and a member of Hoosick Villagers.

She formerly resided in East Hoosick with her husband, Richard J. Powers Sr. Agnes and Richard were married on July 20, 1936, at St. Francis de Sales church in Bennington, and were married for 57 years.

Agnes enjoyed summers spent at her camp on Barbers Pond with family and friends. She lived a fulfilling, rewarding and loving life with and for her children and grandchildren on the family farm which she and her husband, Richard, operated until his retirement.

She was an avid painter, crafter and worked on numerous fundraisers and bazaars throughout her years. She was extremely active in her community, church and local Catholic school. Her family has wonderful memories of big family gatherings at the farm for the holidays throughout the years. Agnes was proud of her strong Irish heritage and was fortunate enough to visit Ireland twice in her lifetime.

She leaves three daughters, Margaret (John) Bakaitis of east Hoosick, Kathleen (William) Peabody, and Barbara (Fred) Bouplon; two sons, Richard J. Jr. (Ann) Powers, and Edward (Bronnie) Powers, all of Hoosick Falls; a sister, Helen Fraher of Burlington; and a brother, Lawrence Knapp of Bennington; 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and five great great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by three grandchildren; three sisters, Grace Knapp, Catherine Deery and Irene Joly; and two brothers, Edward and Richard Knapp.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 27, at 9:15 a.m. from THE MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either St. Mary's Academy, The Karen McGovern Memorial Fund or the Northeast Chapter for CF, through the funeral home.
