Obituary Condolences

PERU -- Ahial H. Crandall Jr., 72, of Peru, passed away Dec. 19, 2006, at Springfield Hospital in Springfield. He was born in Landgrove, on March 15, 1934, the son of Ahial H. and Grace (Buffum) Crandall Sr.

He married Frances Shattuck in November of 1952. Frances passed away in 1976. He married the former Greta Towslee on Sept.12, 1981. He owned and operated Crandal and Son Logging.

He was a gun collector and a lifetime member of NRA, as well as a longtime member of the Manchester and Chester Rod and Gun Clubs. He participated in shooting competitions for many years and enjoyed hunting. He was a Civil War buff and became very knowledgeable in its history. He was a member of the Manchester Eagles. He was also an avid reader. He was a longtime member of the Peru Congregational Church where he taught Sunday school for many years. He was a problem solver for many people and never let people forget how lucky they were.

He is survived by his wife, Greta, of Peru; two sons and daughters-in-law, Almon and Linda Crandall of Weston, and William and Terry Crandall of Peru; a stepson, Jeffrey S. Mason of Springhill, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and James Sessions of Manchester; a stepdaughter, a Melinda Beebe of Wilmington, N.C.; his half-brothers, Howard Jr., Michael, Oscar, Bert and John Capen; half sisters Lois Goddard and Ruby Capen; 13 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Jerry Crandall and a half brother, Julius Capen.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at 3 p.m. at the Peru Congregational Church. Mr. Kermit Reilly and the Rev. Margaret Dawedeit will officiate.
