CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Albert Harry Hommel, 83, of Turnpike Road died peacefully at home on Sat. Dec. 8, 2007, after a long illness.

Born June 29, 1924 in West New York, N.J., he was the son of Albert and Gertrude (Reikorsky) Hommel. At the age of 17, Harry enlisted in the United States Navy and served for the next five years. He later completed his high school education. On November 30, 1952, he married Dorothy (Olson) Hommel.

The family moved to Cambridge in 1965. Harry was a partner and salesman for Afsco Fence in Latham. Survivors include five children and their spouses, Cindy and Mark Dravenstott of Smithville, Ohio, John and June Hommel, with whom Harry lived the past 11 years, Jeff and Lisa Hommel of Cambridge, Caryn Zeh of Glenmont, and Christi and Matt Burdick of Hoosick; a brother and sister-in-law, Buddy and Helen Hommel of Denver, Colo.; 12 grandchildren two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his former wife, Dottie Hommel, of Cambridge. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Arrangements are under the direction of Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, Cambridge.
