Albert J. Thurber

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Albert J. Thurber, 66, died Tuesday at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt. He resided on River Street in Hoosick Falls with his wife Anna (Margarete) Thurber, whom he married on Aug. 8, 1958 in Germany.

He was born Oct. 30, 1936 in Hoosick Falls son of Alvah and Alice (Stewart) Thurber. Al was educated at the Little Red School House in Hoosick and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Korea. He worked as a truck driver for Freihofer’s Baking Company for 17 years. Al then worked for the town of Hoosick as a truck driver. He was presently employed by the village of Hoosick Falls highway department.

Al was a member of the Eagles Aerie No. 2467, American Legion Post 40, Derby Club and the St. Stanislaw Society, all in Hoosick Falls. He was also a life member of the V.F.W. Post No. 1332 in Bennington.

Survivors other than his wife Anna include a brother, William Thurber, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by three brothers John, Alvah and Hebert Thurber.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 8 p.m. from the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
