NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Albert Joseph of 245 Houghton St. died Sunday afternoon, Aug. 21, 2005, at the emergency room of North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was taken after being stricken earlier at home.

He was born in Adams on Dec. 5, 1944, a son of the late Albert J. Volpi Sr. and Gertrude (Burdick) Volpi. He attended schools in Adams. Mr. Volpi was employed by Greylock Electric Co. before starting his own trucking business, Volpi Trucking. He then joined the Clarksburg Construction Co. on June 3, 1996, where he was employed at the time of his death.

Mr. Volpi was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 310 in North Adams. He enjoyed golf and was a member of the North Adams Country Club and the Waubeeka Golf Club in Williamstown. He was a former member of the Stamford Valley Golf Course. He also bowled at the Mt. Greylock Bowl and Valley Park Lanes for many years.

Survivors include his wife, the former Bonnie J. (Tatro) Bird, whom he married on March 8, 1989 in Stamford, Vt.; three sons, Adam J. Volpi of Shaftsbury, Vt., Todd M. Volpi of Ionia, Mich., and Jason A. Volpi of Bennington, Vt.; a daughter, Ashley J. Volpi of North Adams, at home; two stepsons, Aaron F. Bird of Pownal, Vt., and Ryan F. Bird of Brooklyn, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; a sister, Laurie A. Wojtkowski of Bartlett, Ill.; many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held Thursday at 8:15 a..m at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor of the Catholic Churches of North Adams. Burial in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4 to 7p.m.
