Albert S. Ordway 1921-2012 BENNINGTON Albert S. Ordway, 90, formerly of Cleveland Avenue in Shaftsbury, passed away peacefully Friday February 24, 2012 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation. Albert was born in Haverhill, Mass., on May 9, 1921 the son of Frank and Bessie (Rood) Ordway and attended local schools. Albert enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during World War II. Upon being honorably discharged, Albert went to work for Holmes Trucking for many years and following retirement worked for Chem-Fab. Albert enjoyed bowling, golfing, throwing horseshoes, especially at camp and boating while at camp on Lake Hortonia. Albert enjoyed baseball, especially following the New York Yankees, doing carpentry work and cherished times spent with his family. Albert is survived by his son Timothy Ordway and his wife Anita of Bennington, his grandchildren; Holly Rich and her husband Tim of Proctor, Vt., Todd Ordway and his wife Jessa of Arlington, Kyle Ordway and his wife Sandina of Albany, N.Y., and Amanda Collette and her husband Dave of Middletown, N.Y., his great-grandchildren Kylie, Kaleb, Caiden, Fiona and Gabriel, his niece Judy Blake of Shelburne, Vt., and great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Clara Dunbar whom he married in Bennington on July 23, 1944. Mrs. Ordway passed away in December, 1999. He was also preceded in death by two sons; David Ordway who died in 1994 and Albert Ordway who died at birth. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Albert will be held Tuesday February 28, 2012 at 12 at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, Vermont. Rev. Nancy Wright of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in the family lot in Bennington Village Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his wife. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday February 28, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 12, one hour prior to the service.
