Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Albert Yorke, 99, a resident of Bennington, died on Thursday evening, March 30, 2006, at The Centers For Living and Rehabilitation. Mr. Yorke was born in Russia on Dec. 25, 1906. He was the son of the late Israel and Anna Urokofsky. In 1912 at the age of six, he and his parents emigrated to the United States from a small village in Russia. He spent much of his life in the St. Louis area, where he made a career in sales, retiring in the 1970s.

Mr. Yorke was a World War II Army veteran. He relocated to Bennington in 1991 with his son Harvey and family, with whom he had made his home since 1985, following the loss of his wife the prior year. He was a member of the Bennington Beth El Congregation and a longtime volunteer at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and Centers For Living and Rehabilitation, where he eventually became a resident. He continued volunteering for several years as a greeter while a resident there.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dena Ruth Yorke, in August 1984. They were married on Aug. 26, 1940.

Mr. Yorke leaves his family: a son, Harvey and wife, Sharon Yorke, of Bennington; daughters, Patricia Yorke of Boston, and Arlene and husband, Al Farr, of Austin, Texas; a niece, Robetta and husband, Perry Palan, of Rockville, Md.; grandchildren, Jeremy Yorke and Nicole Matte, Nathan and Nickey Yorke, Randy and Hillary Krasner, Dr. Brett and Lisa Krassner, Jay and Lori Krasner, Rachael Krasner, Lauren Meltzer and David Meltzer; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jordan Matte-Yorke, Emma and Elijah Yorke, Alaxander, Nathaniel, James, Benjamin, Joshua, Sabrina, Delaney and Hadin Krasner; three step-great-grandchildren, Zachary, Chloe and Joel Cholette.

The Yorke family will be observing Shiva (calling hours) at the home of Harvey and Sharon at 83 Red Pine Drive on Monday, April 3, 2006, beginning at 6 p.m. The Shiva service will be conducted from 7:30 to 8 p.m. by Rabbi Robert Freedman of Israel Congregation of Manchester; the evening will conclude at 8:30 p.m. The family will continue observing Shiva on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. All are invited to the home during these times to support the family. Mr. Yorke will be laid to rest next to his wife in the family lot in Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery in University City, Mo., on Sunday, April 2.
