Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Alfred C. “Al” Sorensen were held from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Wednesday, Oct. 20, with the Rev. Vincent Coppola, c.s.c., associate pastor, officiating.

Organist was Don McMahon and soloist was Monica Murray. Hymns offered during the service were “How Great Thou Art,” “Be Not Afraid,” “Ave Maria” and “On Eagles’ Wings.” The offertory gifts were presented by Mr. Sorensen’s wife, Lila, and by his brother and sister-in-law, William and Jean Sorensen. Acolytes were Leonard Anzivino, Val Clifford, James Kempf and John Reed. Bearers were two nephews, Thomas and Timothy Kearns; also Ralph Brown, John Butler, James Collins and Ray Farnum. Honorary bearers from Company I, 43rd Div, 172nd Infantry were Joseph Krawczyk and Winfield Gates.

A prayer service at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral Mass. Attending the services were several former employees of Union Carbide Corp., where Al was employed for many years.

Burial took place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery, with Father Coppola offering the committal prayers.

Al Sorensen, a resident of North Bennington Road, Bennington, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
