Alfred Galante, Sr. 1914-2011 MANCHESTER, VT Alfred Galante, Sr., 96, of Manchester, Vt., passed away February 9, 2011 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. Alfred was born in the Bronx, New York on June 22, 1914, the son of Salvatorio and Frances (Albano) Galante. He was married to the former Antoinette Gentile for 30 years. Antoinette passed away in 1973. Alfred married Margaret LaTorella in 1975, Margaret passed away in 1999. Alfred was an electrician at Fordham University in New York for 30 years. In his younger years he was a semi-pro softball player and was nicknamed "Cannonball" for the speed of his pitches. He was an avid sports fan, especially football. He enjoyed building dollhouses for his grandchildren. He also liked hunting, fishing and archery. He was a resident of Manchester for 35 years. Alfred is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Alfred Jr., and Ann Marie Galante of Manchester, Vt., his daughter; Francine Sperle of Smithtown, N.Y., six grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Eugene and a daughter, Josephine. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Monday February 14, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Brewster Funeral Home 34 Park Place Manchester, VT. Burial will follow in Factory Point Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brewster Funeral Home on Sunday February 13, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
