Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mr. Alfred J. Marcoux, 83, a former longtime resident of 226 Maple St. and more recently of the Village at Fillmore Pond in Bennington died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born in Bennington on March 28, 1923. He was the son of the late Ernest J. and Cordelia (Roy) Marcoux. Al received his education in Bennington and was a 1941 graduate of Bennington High School. He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy.

For 27 years Mr. Marcoux was employed at the Union Carbide Corporation from which he retired in 1980.

He was a member of Sacred Heart-Saint Francis deSales Church. His hobbies and interests included gardening, fishing, photography, skiing and swimming.

During the summer months Al would swim the length of Lake Paran. He also enjoyed playing the organ and different stringed instruments.

Survivors include a sister, Leonie G. “Honey” Jones, of Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including Lionel Marcoux, of Bennington. He was pre-deceased by eight brothers: Lucien, Roland, Raymond, Richard, Henry, Francis, Clement and Victor Marcoux. He was also pre-deceased by four sisters: Carmel Moran, Irene Giard, Therese Marcoux and Julia Bronson.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart-Saint Francis deSales Church at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
