Obituary Condolences

WALLINGFORD -- Alfred “Fred” St. Onge Sr., 77, died Jan. 12, 2004 at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born in West Glover, Sept. 2. 1926, the son of Roy and Anna (Diette) St. Onge.

He was a World War II, U.S. Navy veteran. He moved to Barton following his honorable discharge.

He married Elizabeth “Betty” Paquin in 1946; they moved to Connecticut where he worked for Southworths in New Milford, before moving back to Vermont in 1957. He was employed by Earl and Merry Construction and CVPS, retiring in 1985.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a lover of horses.

Fred was instrumental in starting the Coon & Cat Club in Shrewsbury, the Green Mountain Sno Flyers club in Clarendon and the Groovey Gallopers 4-H Club in Wallingford.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and Rutland American Legion Post 31.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” St. Onge of Wallingford; three sons, Bradley St. Onge and Chris St. Onge both of Rutland, Fred St. Onge Jr. of Wallingford; two daughters, Cindy Fruean and her husband, Gordon of Rutland and Melody Cannavan and her husband, William of Woodford; two sisters, Gloria Loomis of Clarendon and Viola Adams of San Antonio, Texas; three grandsons, Alfred St. Onge III, Bradley St. Onge Jr. and Brian Cannavan.

He was predeceased by a brother, Charles St. Onge and by two sisters, Katherine Sheehe and Edna Hill.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, Jan.16 at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Patrick’s Cemetery

Friends may call Thursday at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland from 4 to 7 p.m.
