BENNINGTON -- Alice Cook Watson, 104, widow of Leroy P. Watson a resident of Colonial Garden Apartments died peacefully at her home on Wednesday Nov. 8, 2006, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Watson was born in Fairlee on Feb. 17, 1902, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Effie (Hubbard) Cook. Mrs. Watson was a graduate of Lyndon Institute in Lyndonville, class of 1920, she continued her education at The Teachers College of Springfield, Mass. A devoted teacher, she had taught for many years in Massachusetts and Vermont, retiring from Mt. Anthony Union High School where she taught business, short-hand and adult education typing classes. Following her retirement from teaching she worked as the secretary at The First United Methodist Church for over 12 years.

Mrs. Watson was a former member of the North Bennington Congregational Church, Circle IV of the First United Methodist Church of Bennington, American Education Association, National Education Association, Order of the Eastern Star, past President of the PTA of North Bennington Schools, past President of Women’s Fellowship of the North Bennington Congregational Church, past President of Church Women United, Sage City Home Dem Group and A.A.R.P. in Bennington.

Mrs. Watson was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed knitting, sewing and making quality clothing for her family, she also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, reading, maintained her love of teaching and her beloved family. The Watson House Community Care Home in North Bennington was named in honor Mrs. Watson and her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leroy P. Watson, on July 6, 1975.

She leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Richard B. and Susan Watson, of Bennington; her daughter, Deborah W. and Paul Jewett, of Bennington; her grandchildren, Andrew R. and his wife Cecelia Wilkinson, of Richmond, Va., Lt. Col. Colleen Watson of Richmond, Va., and Amy (Watson) and her husband, Dennis Bull, of Bennington; her great-grandchildren Whitney Bull, Abbagail Bull, Andrew Wilkinson, Benjamin Wilkinson and Alexis Wilkinson.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Dorothy Cook.

At the request of Mrs. Watson, family funeral services will be private with burial in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery next to her husband Leroy. There are no calling hours.
