BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. -- Alice Divis, 82, of Malta and formerly of Cromwell, Conn., went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at Maplewood Manor, Ballston Spa.

Born in New York, N.Y., on Nov. 14, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Helen Sasek Blaha. Mrs. Divis worked for the J.C. Penney Co. for 26 years, retiring in 1984 as the assistant manager in Middletown, Conn.

Mrs. Divis was a member of the First Congregational Church of Cromwell for more than 50 years where she served as a deaconess and president of Women’s Federation. She was an associate member of the Malta Presbyterian Church for the past four years.

She was a member of Lady Washington Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Middletown and Past Worthy Matron of Cromwell Chapter 66 OES. She was a past grand marshall of the state of Connecticut OES and a 50-year member of the organization.

Mrs. Divis was a member of the American Legion, Grange, Republican Cornmittee and Cromwell Historical Society. In 1988 she was recogrxized by the Cromwell Junior Women as 14 “Women of the Year.” During the past four years, she has served as president of the Highpointe Association where she lived. She was also the town of Malta’s representative to the Saratoga County Office of the Aging.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Divis, in 1979 and her brother, George Blaha.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara and her husband, Joseph Mazurak, of Clifton Park; her son, Douglas Divis and his wife, Karen, of Woodford, Vt.; and her sister, Ellen Svoboda of Newport, Wash.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, Karen Atkinson, Jeffrey Mazurak, Stacey Divis, and Haley Spencer; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill, Conn., on Monday, Feb. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, Main Street Cromwell.

A private interment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Rocky Hill, Conn.

A memorial service for friends and family to celebrate Alice’s life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 10 a.m. at the Malta Presbyterian Cburch, Malta.

Memorial contributions may be made to Maplewood Manor Resident Fund, 129 Ballston Avenue, Ballston Spa, NY 12020 or the First Congregational Church, Main Street, Cromwell, CT 06851.
