BENNINGTON -- Alice Elizabeth Hoyt, 84, a resident of Grove Street, died peacefully at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington on Saturday morning, Oct. 9, 2004, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Shaftsbury on April 10, 1920 and was the daughter of Harold and Agnes (Jones) Wood. She received her education in local schools. Mrs. Hoyt has been employed over the years at the Stewart’s Fountain Shop on North Street, the Grand Union Supermarket, Polygraphic, Sertis Nursing Home, Crescent Manor and most recently before retiring, she was an LNA at the Bennington Convalescent Center, now Bennington Health and Rehabilitation.

Her main interest included collecting owls, doing word search puzzles, watching soap operas and mostly being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hoyt is survived by her children, Bob and his wife Nancy of Wythville, Va., Mrs. Paula Lauzon of Shaftsbury, DonnaLee Hoyt of Bennington and Gerry and his wife Debbie Hoyt of Shaftsbury. She has nine grandchildren and their spouses and companions, G. Scotty Hoyt and Kerri, Jodie Thomas and Henry Coon, Connie Nelson and David Cine, Colleen Grey and Mike, Jamie Hoyt and Lindsey Terrell, Tammy Lorette and William, Dack Lauzon and Theresa, Jason Hoyt and Lacy and Jonathan Hoyt. Mrs. Hoyt has 16 great-grandchildren, Tangalee Thomas, Ashley Wilson, Aaron Thomas, Robbie. Tolbert, Dack Lauzon Jr., Tabitha Lauzon, Cody Grubb, Amanda Case, Adam Grubb, Carrol Lorette, LeeAnna Case, Vanessa Lauzon, Hunter Legard Hoyt, Kalee Hoyt, Jared Hoyt and Jon Grey; three great-great-grandchildren, Joshua Grey, Devin Martin and Macayla Grey; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Theresa Wood of North Adams, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by two brothers, Harold “Buddy” Wood Jr. and Albert Wood, and two great-grandchildren, Hailey Marie and Christopher Anthony Lorette

The burial office will be celebrated on Tuesday morning, Oct. 12, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bennington at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Miner, interim rector, officiating. Assisting at the services will be the Rev. Penny Hawkins. Interment will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington on Monday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
