BENNINGTON -- Alice M. Hilliard, 79, a resident of White Birches Park in Bennington died on Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at the Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center, following a brief illness.

She was born in Bennington on Jan. 2, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Leroy and Alice (Blair) Davis. She attended local schools in Bennington. Over the years she has been employed at BenMont Paper Mill, Tansitor Electric and she had retired from Eveready after 15 years of service. She married Leon Hilliard on July 27, 1946, in North Bennington. Mr. Hilliard predeceased her on April 25, 2006. Mr. and Mrs. Hilliard traveled to Florida for several winters. They enjoyed camping with family and friends and traveling with the Good Sam (Camper’s) Club. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice enjoyed doing crafts.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Diane Blest and Joanne and Harry Rice Jr. and her son, Leon Hilliard Jr., all of Bennington. Alice has one brother, Frank Davis of Bennington. She leaves seven grandchildren, Brenda Bushee and her husband Daniel of Bennington, Greg Blake Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale Fla., Erin Blest and Erica Blest, both of Bennington, Michelle Franceaur and her husband Daniel of Bennington, Noel Hilliard of Tampa, Fla., and Kelsey Hilliard of Bennington. There are seven great-grandchildren, Brandon, Lauren, Valerie, Shannon and Becky Bushee, all of Bennington, also Amanda and Aaron Franceaur of Bennington. One great-great-granddaughter, Trinity Lee Bushee of Bennington. She leaves nieces and nephews, and her dog Miranda. Alice is predeceased by one brother, Alfred Davis; and one sister, Evelyn Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington with the Rev. Jerrod Hugenot, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in the family lot in Hinsdillville Cemetery in North Bennington. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
