BENNINGTON -- Alice L. Knapp, 92, widow of Herbert A. Knapp, a longtime former resident of County Street, Bennington, died peacefully Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.

Born in Pownal, Dec. 4, 1914, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Helen (Calahan) Blanchard. She received her education in the Pownal schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Knapp were married in Pownal on June 24, 1931. Mr. Knapp died Oct.16, 1974.

In earlier years Mrs. Knapp was employed at Bennington Brush Company and later at Thomson Manufacturing until her retirement. Her home and family were her main interest. In earlier years she had served as president of the Emblem Club at Bennington Elks Lodge 567.

Survivors include four daughters, Kaye Daigneault of Bennington, Patricia Houran of Williamstown, Mass., Hazel Callanan of Saugus, Calif., and Beverly Rowe of Henderson, N.Y.; a son, Herbert B. Knapp of Bennington; 22 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Mrs. Knapp was predeceased by a daughter, Dorothy Hewson; four grandchildren, Deborah Hewson, Gary Hewson, Howard Hewson Jr. and James Houran; and by seven sisters and brothers, Hazel Knights, Jennie Knights, Helen Walk, Olive Mattison, Kathryn Brooks, Dewey Blanchard and William Blanchard.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jerrod Hugenot, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Bennington officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Wednesday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Should friends desire, contributions in memory of Mrs. Knapp may be made to either the Vermont Heart Association or Kurn Hattin Home through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
