BENNINGTON -- Alma M. Cole, 90, widow of Arthur P. Cole, a longtime resident of Gage Street, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

Born in Whitingham on Aug. 16, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Josephine (LaFlamme) Betit. She received her education in the Bennington schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Cole were married Sept. 2, 1939, at Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Cole died Feb. 11, 1987.

In earlier years Mrs. Cole was employed at Allen A mill and later at Ben Mont Paper Company. For many years Alma was employed as a school cook for the Bennington School District.

A devout member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church, Alma was a member and past president of St. Anne’s Society. She was past president of the Council of Catholic Women and she was a former teacher in the C.C.D. program at Sacred Heart School. Mrs. Cole was a member of the Council of Vermont and the charismatic group of the church. She was a Eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart Church. She was a longtime Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne M. Cole of Bennington, and Mary J. Warrick and her husband, Jay, of Vacaville, Calif.; a foster son, Bruce Biddle and his wife Lisa of North Bennington; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Hector Betit; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Mrs. Cole was predeceased by five sisters and seven brothers

The funeral will be held at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart School through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.

All members of St. Anne’s Society are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday at 7 p.m. for the recitation of the Rosary in memory of Alma Cole.
