Alta S. Oakes

1910 - 2013 NORTH ADAMS Alta Seraphine Oakes, 102, of Readsboro, Vt., died Sunday Feb. 3, 2013, at Sweetbrook Care Center, Williamstown.

Born in North Adams on Dec. 3, 1910, daughter of George and Nellie (Day) Bouchard, she attended North Adams schools, including Drury High School.

Alta worked at Sprague Electric Co. for 32 years until her retirement in 1972.

She was a communicant of St. Joachim's Church and was a member of its St. Anne Society. She was also a member of the Sprague Retirees, Sprague Quarter Century Club and the South Readsboro Community Club.

Her husband, Henry Lewis Oakes, whom she married Sept. 30, 1929, died May 13, 1966.

Survivors include her daughter, Lois Lorraine Lowe of Readsboro, Vt.; one son, Gary Oakes of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great -great-grandchildren. She also leaves nieces and nephews.

Her son, Richard G. Oakes, died Nov. 10, 2012. Two sisters and one brother are deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Alta Oakes will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Joachim's Church in Readsboro. Burial will be in the spring in Southview cemetery, North Adams. There will be no calling hours.
