Alvah Beckley, Jr. 1945 - 2011 EAST DORSET, VT Alvah R. Beckley, Jr., a resident of Mad Tom Road in East Dorset, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 8, 2011, at West Rutland Health and Rehabilitation. Alvah was born in East Dorset on March 12, 1945, son of Alvah R. Beckley, Sr. and Gloria Sendra, and attended Burr & Burton Seminary in Manchester. Alvah worked for many years in the marble quarry mines in Danby and then later worked for the Equinox Hotel. Alvah enjoyed fishing and hunting in his earlier years. He was an avid NASCAR racing fan, enjoyed following Dale Ernhardt, Jr., and liked completing crossword puzzles. Alvah is survived by his mother, Gloria Beckley of East Dorset; his children, Christopher Porter-Beckley of East Dorset, Paul Beckley of Bennington, Joel and Adam Beckley of Danby, Cindy Dyer of Gibsonton, Fla., and Rosalie Marsh of Pratteville, Ala.; his brother, David Beckley of East Dorset; his sister, Linda Niles and her husband Ray of East Dorset; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Alvah will be held Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at 11 a.m. at BREWSTER FUNERAL SERVICE 34 Park Place Manchester Center, VT. Interment will follow in the family lot in East Dorset, South Village Cemetery. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Alvah's name may be made to the Manchester Rescue Squad, c/o Brewster Funeral Service P.O. Box 885 Manchester Center, VT 05255.
