Judge Alvin Schlesinger Obituary
Judge Alvin Schlesinger

1924 - 2015 ARLINGTON, VT Judge Alvin Schlesinger, retired New York State Supreme Court Justice, a resident of Route 7A, passed away Jan. 14, 2015 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. He lived 90 wonderful years. Judge Schlesinger was born in the Bronx, N.Y. on Apr. 28, 1924, the son of the late Joseph and Gertrude Schlesinger and attended local schools. He went to City College as an undergraduate and graduated from NYU Law School. He served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during World War II. In 1991 Judge Schlesinger presided over the prescient case of El Sayyid Nosair, a Muslim accused of killing Rabbi, Meir Kahane. It could be argued the case was the first of many terrorist cases which have followed. After a successful career practicing Law in New York City, Judge Schlesinger moved to Vermont 20 years ago with a new bride in hand and for his love of winter sports including cross country and downhill skiing. He enjoyed traveling to France, listening to classical music, was an avid history reader and loved dogs. While living in Vermont he was on the board of PAVE and for many years in New York City he was a member of the Fortune Society which was an organization for ex-offenders, re-integrating them back into society. He is survived by his wife, the former Ann Abel, of Arlington and formerly Muncie, Indiana and his sister, Joyce Feinsilber of New York City. At the request of the family, services for Judge Schlesinger will be announced at a later date. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Judge Schlesinger's memory may be made to PAVE or the Second Chance Animal Shelter c/o Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, Arlington Chapel P.O.
