POWNAL -- Amos Franklin Brimmer, 73, a resident of Cardinal Boulevard in Pownal, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Amos was born in Bennington on Sept. 25, 1934, the son of Mabel Gates and attended school in White Creek, N.Y. Amos was a veteran of the Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Stanley Tool and Vermont Container.

Amos loved fishing and hunting. He enjoyed working on his cars and playing his guitar and singing. He enjoyed playing in local horseshoe tournaments and was a Boston Red Sox baseball fan and a Dallas Cowboys football fan. Amos was a former member of American Legion Post 90 in Pownal and VFW Post 1332 in Bennington. He cherished times spent with his family.

Amos is survived by his wife, the former Millicent Hull, to whom he married on June 26, 1989; his son Amos Brimmer Jr., and his daughter Marcia Lou Brimmer both of Dubois, Pa.; his step-sons, Raynie Sousis of Barre, and Donald Hull of Florida; his step daughter Regina Sousis of Granville, N.Y.; four brothers, Larry Gates of Pownal, Sam Ruggles of Hebron, N.Y., Frank Ruggles of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and John Ruggles of Cambridge, N.Y.; six sisters, Mabel Bryant of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Frances Ormsbee of Bernard Bay, N.Y., Marilyn Watkins of Dalesville, Ala., Lorraine Burnett of Greenfield Center, N.Y., Ruth Allen of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., and Doris Hunt of Cambridge, N.Y.; three grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray and Arthur Gates and Donald Ruggles and two sisters, Emily Harrington and Lillian Smith.

Funeral services for Amos will be held Wednesday morning, Nov. 21, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington. Pastor Robert Lebert of Harvest Christian Ministries will conduct the service. Interment will be private. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Tuesday evening, Nov. 20, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
